Avengers #1
Origin and first appearance of the super-team
Record sale: $369,000
Minimum value: $750
This is a genuine Marvel mega-key issue, even though it's pretty common. It typically shows up in collections about three times as often as most of the other big Silver Age key issue comics.
Hard to come by in high grade, with only 35 copies graded 9.0 or higher by CGC, it nonetheless is a great find, even in lower grades.

Avengers #2
First Appearance of Space Phantom;
Incredible Hulk leaves team
Record sale: $70,000
Minimum value: $35
An important issue, as it sets up the 'frenemies' aspect of in-fighting amongst Avengers team members such as Thor vs Hulk.
Not as desirable as #1, but Avengers #2 is still a great find.
There are nearly 100 copies graded 9.0 or higher, but only 3 at 9.8.

Avengers #3
Hulk and Sub-Mariner fight the Avengers
Record sale: $13,000
Minimum value: $20
An important issue, as the story follows up from Hulk leaving, with him teaming up with a long-time Marvel super-villain, the Sub-Mariner.
Spider-Man comic collectors will weep to learn that there's a Spider-Man cameo in this issue! So if you want a complete collection, then you'll need to buy a copy of this comic.
There are 60 copies graded 9.0 or higher by CGC. Not a great find compared to #1, but still a nice one to have.
Avengers #4
Revival of Captain America from the Golden Age
Record sale: $143,000
Minimum value: $180
Avengers #4 is surely one of the most iconic of Silver Age comic book covers, and a key moment in the history of The Avengers.
Captain America is revived from his slumber and joins the team in a splash of patriotic glory.
This is NOT the first Silver Age appearance of Cap; that was in Strange Tales #114.
With more than 130 CGC graded examples at 9.0 or higher, this is hardly a rare comic book. But it's one most collectors would love to own.
WARNING: There is a 1966 Golden Record reprint of this edition. Read on for info.
It can be easy to get excited when you see a Golden Record reprint of the mega Marvel keys from the early 1960s. Even I have been fooled a couple of times!
The main way to identify the GRRs:
The big giveaway is the lack of a price box. It's an easy one to overlook when you see a high-grade key issue and your pulse begins to race... See images below.
The four titles reprinted by GRR were FF #1, Avengers #4, Journey into Mystery #83, and Amazing Spider-Man #1.
The reprinted comics had slightly different covers, along with an LP record of the story.
While the Golden Record reprints are worth a fraction of the originals, they are still collectible -- especially since for many collectors, the original issues are well beyond their budget.
Mint condition Golden Record comics are now highly sought-after. They are often found in great shape, because the record protected the comic book from damage over the years.
Avengers #6
1st Appearance of Baron Zemo and his Masters of Evil
Record sale: $7,500
Minimum value: $20
Avengers #8
Origin and First Appearance of Kang the Conqueror
Record sale: $16,500
Minimum value: $80
Avengers #9
Origin and First Appearance of Wonder Man
Record sale: $9,400
Minimum value: $20
Avengers #10
First Appearance of Immortus
Error ink version
Record sale: $416 (!!!)
Minimum value: $??
Avengers #10
First Appearance of Immortus
Correct ink version
Record sale: $7,600
Minimum value: $20
This is a complete sleeper. "The Avengers Break Up!" is in pink; most of the blue inks appear green. See our recalled comics price guide for more.
Sean and I randomly found one in an old collection; CGC qualifies this as a manufacturing error. The record sale of $416 is a joke! If you see one of these -- simply, BUY IT.
Avengers #11
Spider-Man Crossover and cover appearance
Record sale: $15,750
Minimum value: $30
Another opportunity for Spider-Man collectors to get upset, or excited, depending on their budgets.
Avengers #11 featured a cover and story with none other than Spidey himself.
Spider-Man looks a bit weird on the cover to be honest, and there are plenty about for collectors to own.

Thanks in part to the recent Hollywood obsession with comic book super heroes, The Avengers has enjoyed a huge boost in both popularity and collectible values.
As if the Avengers movies, starting in 2012 and terminating in Endgame were not enough, some characters from the movie have also had their own solo appearances. Captain America, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, and even Thor have had their own movies.
Throw in Nick Fury, and you've got the perfect blend of Marvel Comics characters to make this an irresistible team.
If you've found a collection of old Avengers books and want to know how much they're worth, then please get in touch.
Sell My Comic Books will be delighted to help you reach a valuation, and will also make a cash offer if you wish to sell your comics.
Please note that we do not buy most Avengers comic issues after 1980.
