Patsy Walker was the star of a teen romantic-comedy comic book series who first appeared in the 1944 second issue of Miss America Magazine, published by Timely Comics. The character was created by artist Ruth Atkinson and the storylines were written by Stuart Little.
Patsy Walker was such a popular character that many spin-off series were created such as A Date with Patsy, Patsy and Her Pals, Patsy and Hedy and others. Patsy Walker is also among only a handful of characters to remain being published through the various iterations of Timely Comics becoming Atlas Comics and then finally Marvel Comics from the 1940s through to the 1960s.
Her main title series, Patsy Walker, ran for a total of 124 issues before ending in 1965. Patsy and Hedy, one of many spin-offs outlasted her namesake series, running up until 1967 for a total of 110 issues. The character also made appearances in Miss America, Teen Comics and Girl's Life.
Patsy Walker was brought into the Marvel Universe via the Avengers #144 and reintroduced this time as a superhero known as Hellcat. Her new superpowers allow her to sense the oncoming of mystical phenomena and deflect such attacks.
Hellcat attains her powers through a cloak which she can wear and summon at will. Her wrists are equipped with retractable claws and grappling hooks and she is also well adept in martial arts having trained under the Avengers and Moondragon.
Hellcat joined the Defenders, another Marvel superhero team in 1977 in the series Defenders. She also makes appearances in series like She-Hulk and Civil War.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, her character is portrayed by actor Rachael Taylor in various Netflix series such as Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and The Defenders.
