Suspense Comics Price Guide
In the late 1940s to early 1950s, horror, crime and chilling suspense were all fodder for comic book publishers. Later, the Comics Code Authority would spoil the fun, dictating which language and imagery were allowed to be published in books intended for sale to children.
Suspense was a fairly average title, but collectors have developed a taste for some of the more interesting covers, and prices are on the rise.

Suspense Volume One was a series of comics that were published by Marvel’s predecessor Atlas Comics. The series ran for a total of 29 issues beginning in 1949 and running up until 1953.
The first two issues have photographic covers while the rest are hand drawn. The horror series was also the first to use the character of Dracula from Bram Stoker’s novel in a comic. Years later, Marvel would reprise the character many times over.
Joe Maneely drew much of the cover art alongside Russ Heath, Bill Everett and Sol Brodksy. Hank Chapman wrote the majority of the scripts with Stan Lee contributing some as well. The storylines dealt with murder, ghouls and of course, vampires.
